We sit down for tea and a good talk… here’s the outcome…..

Your newest book is Choices, but I would like to know in which order is it in The Guardian Series.

Well, I wrote it third, but it is actually the second to the Series; Adela is the prequel to the Trilogy. After I wrote The Guardian some of my female readers asked me where I came up with Adela and on top of that, I had my own questions, so I wrote the book of her before she was turned. I thought it was important to show her that a lot of her characteristics were there well before she was turned.

You said this is a trilogy, so how many books are you planning?

At the moment I have three more to the trilogy in my head. One is a standalone that will show the details of the Order of Hunters, which is the group Priest comes from, so vampires in this book will not be as friendly as in the rest of the trilogy. I am doing another book that shows Adela’s guardian; since he is mentioned from time to time in the two books, I feel that story needs to be told in whole. The third I cannot explain, because it could be a spoiler for Choices. J
So you only write paranormal romance?

Actually, I am working on a couple of books that have nothing to do with the paranormal or vampires. They are more mystery and dystopia.

So the Guardian Trilogy is your only paranormal works?

No, I am working on a book called Cold Hearted and it is a completely different take on vampires than The Guardian Trilogy. Vampires in this book cannot feel love as a human does, but rather amuses themselves with human mates as they do with vampires based on something that interests themselves in the person. This is one of the costs of being turned, not being able to feel love and be numb to it. One human is determined to show the vampire he loves that she can feel love, if she allowed herself to. He has put himself into grave danger with her coven by doing this.

Who is your favorite character and where did the idea come from? Adela hands down is my favorite; I believe it is due to the fact that she is my ideal woman – sexy – strong – and smart – these are the things I look for in a woman.

I hear there is something unusual that came out of you writing Adela and Choices.

You would have to be referring to the cover model for both books; we ended up together and are expecting in late September. Do you have anything big or unusual coming in the future?

The Guardian is going to be released in all Russian speaking countries this summer.

Why Russian for a first language?

Well, I had thought about Spanish or Japanese, but I have so many readers that have Russian as a native language that I asked them to help me with the translator. Three of the readers proof read the translations and gave feedback to the translator until everyone believed it had the same feeling. I am currently seeking out beta readers for Spanish, so that I can make sure the translation is on par – I have a fear of this due to cultures having some things that do not translate into each other well. I speak four languages – well enough to get a long in those countries – and have found that when I try to use an idiom from English it doesn’t really work in other languages when you say it word for word; like keep your head down in English, it is the nail that stands out gets hit in the Japanese language.

Who is your favorite author?

Terry Prathett, he has his own magical world that sort of mocks our own. Death is my favorite character, because he is always messing up fate or the others in the Universe that want to harm people. Also him striving to understand humans; he has a lot of compassion for people, but really can’t wrap his head around what makes them tick Is that not a problem we all have to face from time to time?

What is your favorite book?

Would without a second thought be The Host by Stephanie Meyer. She did a great job of showing the emotional struggles of not one, but most of the Characters in her book. I have read this book more than a few times.

Book Blurb:  While still doubled over, picking up a book, Adela stated with a sultry voice, “One of these days, I am going to make you deliver on all of those promised ideas, running through your head when you watch me.” She had a playful sound to her voice with her smile, telling that fulfilling his dreams was not out of the question.

I should admit that I always liked this genre. Today You can find bunch of books and films of this theme. BUT J.L. managed to surprise me. His characters and story itself very reach and live. I’m really glad that I had a chance to know this author personally and read His books! I wish You inspiration and good luck!

  5. Steven says:

J.L. displays his creativity with his presentation of a world that reflects our own in many ways with how his characters approach and resolve the issues that rise to challenge. Jamie’s dynamic use of characters like Priest keep the reader absorbed and awaiting what happens next. I look forward to see more of his work.

    • J.L McFadden says:

Thank you Steven… Priest has a book coming, but there is also a spin off stand alone that will be a little into the BC time telling the story of “The Order of Hunters” and how it all got started.

    • J.L McFadden says:

Steven, I decided to leave you another comment after speaking to my editor to explain that due to your intrest and her intrest in Priest I will be doing Priest as soon as I wrap up a book that is for a Publisher. All the Guardians Trilogy I have decided to self-publish, so I have full control – unless some huge deal comes around. I don’t know why, but of all of my stories and characters, this set is very close to me. So some time in the late Fall your Priest should be about published.

Its strange. I signed in at 7:13 pm EST and my comment is showing midnight (12:13 am) 3/2/15. Have to think how to fix this.lol

      • J.L McFadden says:

I believe it is, because my site does the same thing to people. Shirley, wordpress depends on were the host of the page lives or the time they set in the settings. 🙂

    • J.L McFadden says:

Thank you, myfriend… I am reading your newest book at the moment. Finally got a moment to myself.
